Pre-Prep

What is Pre-Prep?

As part of the Victorian Governments commitment to strengthening early learning opportunities for children in Victoria to attend 2 years of kindergarten; 4-year-old kinder will be transitioning to Pre-Prep.

Pre-Prep is designed to support children’s early learning and offers more hours across the week, providing further opportunity for children to develop their skills and learning through a play-based program.

Where is Pre-Prep available?

Pre-Prep is part of a staged roll out across LGA’s within Victoria.

In 2026 GRPSA will roll out Pre-Prep at the following services in the Strathbogie LGA:

  • Avenel Kindergarten
  • Euroa Kindergarten
  • Nagambie Preschool
  • Violet Town Kindergarten

Pre-Prep is scheduled to roll out in the following LGA’s as follows:

  • 2027: Moira Shire
  • 2028: Campaspe and Greater Shepparton

  • Victoria has committed to the Best Start Best Life reforms, providing 2 years of free kindergarten to all Victorian children
  • The reforms are designed to provide children with the best start to their development and education

Pre-Prep Progam

  • Pre-Prep provides a play-based program designed to provide children with opportunity to develop their social and emotional skills, literacy and numeracy skills, independence skills, communication skills and creative skills

Cost and hours

  • Pre-Prep is free
  • Children enrolled in a GRPSA Pre-Prep program will attend an average of 20 hours per week

Our curriculum:
Our programs are underpinned by the Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework. A key role of our educators delivering programs is to build children’s confidence, sense of wellbeing and security, and their motivation to engage actively in learning with others.

Enrolling in our Pre-Prep programs

Eligibility to enrol for Pre-Prep:

Children who are 4 years old before 30th April in the year of attendance in Pre-Prep
are eligible to enrol.
